Scratch Resistance: Highly abrasion-resistant coating which increases surface hardness allowing lenses to exceed testing requirements.

Marine: Marine coating which protects lenses from saltwater use.

Polycarbonate: Thinner than mineral glass by up to 25%, lightweight with increased impact resistance.
Mineral Glass: Available on some of our frames. Mineral Glass provides the best optical clarity.

I’ve had expensive Maui Jim’s in the past and they were great, but I always felt I was carrying around expensive jewelry too afraid to lose it. They also were a bit more form than function.
I switched to Goodr and would go through a pair every few weeks to months. The lens would scratch easily and the frame (albeit comfortable) flimsy.
I wanted a step up without breaking the bank and these Island Optics Mako XL are the best. Not cheap, but affordable for what feel like extremely high quality sunglasses that maximize function. They aren’t going to look like designer sunglasses, but I think they look fantastic.
I plan to buy another pair soon.

I have been Bass Fishing for 40 years and polarized glasses are a must to see the fish and to protect your eyes. The Mako XL did very well in both categories and being a big guy the XLs did not squeeze my temples as others have and my eyes felt very rested from not squinting due to glare. I will be sharing these with my fishing club as when I tested the glasses in a tournament I had actually won the event!! Thanks Island Optics!
